Apple Logo History: Story behind Iconic Art

When I look at Apple logo, plenties of question strikes like … what Apple logo history? where did this come from? Where did they get the motivation for the idea? How has this improved an excessive amount of over the years?

More often than not, logos have a story behind them and today, as we answer a selected question, we’ll discuss the Apple logo, one among the world’s most famous logos … Why is that the apple having a bite?

Back in 1977, when Regis McKenna approached him as his stage director, Rob Janoff created the brand and tasked with designing the Apple Computer logo.

Several rumors have arisen about the long-lasting logo since. Another misconception is that it is a nod to Turing, the person who lays the framework for modern-day computers.

For his job, the poor guy unrecognized often ridiculed for a gay and faced prison for indecency so he consumed an apple that he had killed with cyanide.

“I was driving Steve Jobs back from the airport along Highway 85. Steve was coming back from a visit to Oregon to a place he called an ‘apple orchard’. It was actually some kind of commune.

Steve suggested a name – Apple Computer. The first comment out of my mouth was, ‘What about Apple Records?’ This was (and still is) the Beatles-owned record label.

We both tried to come up with technical-sounding names that were better, but we couldn’t think of any good ones. Apple was so much better, better than any other name we could think of.”

The initial version of Janoff’s apple logo featured a rainbow range, regard to Apple’s Apple II machine which became the world’s first color monitor device. a touch before computer launch, the brand debuted.

Steve Jobs promptly approved the Apple design with multi-coloured stripes for production.

The artwork then developed on cassette tapes for print advertisements, signage hardware emblems, and software labels beat preparation for the launch of the Apple II computer at the West Coast Computer Fair in April 1977.

The multi-colored Apple logo had operational for 22 years until Steve Jobs axed it but a year after his 1997 return to Apple.

In its place was a replacement logo that removed the colorful stripes and replaced it with a more modern monochromatic look that over the past few years has taken on a spread of sizes and colours .

However, the logo’s basic design appears unchanged from its initial creation 33 years ago.

Landor & Associates’ slight makeover because Landor used Macs running Adobe software, tools Janoff did not have in 1977 to refine the brand, making it more geometrical, more symmetrical.

In the technology industry, Janoff later worked on designs for the IBM and Intel.

Rob Janoff himself likes simple character logo design, Volkswagen, NBC, and FedEx. He likes positive and negative space logos, where there’ll something revealed there.

“The logo is typical to be interpreted from very, very small, to very, very large, and it’s not always easy to try to to. i feel simplicity and readability are key,”

Regardless of myths circulating about the Apple logo, Janoff’s design work by Apple recognized it together of the world’s most iconic corporate logo designs and proved to survive through 2014 for 37 years.

The Apple logo remembered with great ease. this often why Apple never put name information into the brand.

Rob Janoff managed to supply Apple identification, which is straightforward and powerful, to the liking of Steve Jobs.

“The apple shape itself didn’t have anything to do with computers. It’s to get people to notice that an Apple computer was not some piece of hard-edged metal that has no place in your home and that your kid wouldn’t want to be near. Lots of different fruits have a stem, are sort of round with a leaf dangling off of it. So the bite in the apple was initially meant to indicate that it was an apple, and not something else. Also metaphorically the bite indicated biting into all the knowledge users would get out of this computer.

What’s funny, though, is after I came up with it my creative director, Chip, said “Oh guess what, Rob. You just designed something you didn’t realize. The word ‘byte’ is a computer word. And you took a bite out of Apple.” I wasn’t computer literate enough to see that initially. And I was like, there’s a bit of wit that will last! Any logo that makes a joke or engages you in that way you’re going to remember. And the rainbow colors had to do with the USP of this product. The Apple computer was the only one that could show images in color.”

Steve Jobs expressed some regret that such parallels were not drawn in the conceptual stages. When asked directly by writer/actor Stephen Fry if the logo was inspired by Turing he said “God we wish it were. It’s just a coincidence.”
